Collections Consultant

25k - 35k depending on experience

System Simulation has over 40 years of innovative software development in the heritage sector. We provide archive, library and museum cataloguing and collections management systems based on our CollectionsIndex+ family of products. Our customers range from small private and specialist museums to national organisations, multi-national corporations and world museums such as The British Museum and the V&A.

We are looking to expand our team and now have a vacancy for a Collections Consultant. The role will be based in our central London office.

This is a varied, hands-on role that combines consultancy, account management and sales and marketing. It would suit someone who has experience working with museums, galleries or private collections and knowledge of one or more collections management software systems. A university-level museum qualification would be a plus. You'll need to be well-organised with an eye for detail, calm under pressure and confident and personable in dealing with clients. This isn't a software development role, but you will need to be able to communicate effectively with our software engineering team.

  • migrate new clients' data to CollectionsIndex+
  • undertake testing and documentation of new software
  • deliver CollectionsIndex+ training sessions for new and existing clients

Account Management:

  • ensure the happiness of our key client accounts
  • undertake project management of system implementations and other client-commissioned development jobs
  • have responsibility for testing work and checking against contracted requirements before release to client

Sales and Marketing:

  • demonstrate CollectionsIndex+ to prospective customers
  • develop sales and marketing materials
  • represent System Simulation at industry conferences and exhibitions
  • interact proactively with the Index+ User Group and the broader museums community

Other roles

We need developers. You need to be a keen, and enthusiastic computing graduate with a passion for getting computers to do things. We don't have a pile of standard technologies which you need to tick off, but you'll be seriously good in a couple of programming languages, you'll have done some neat web stuff and you'll know some Javascript (and C and C++ won't hurt). We work in a mixed environment, mostly Linux and Microsoft, and with mobile platforms.

We also need people who can help run projects. If you can combine technical skills with the ability to take a project leader role, managing other developers and dealing directly with customers and negotiating, so much the better.

Finally we need people who have a nose for systems administration in a mixed environment. Experience of running a network of Linux or Windows boxes or web hosting would go down well. Again, if you can combine this with skills as a developer, then that's really what we're looking for.

You will work mostly on real projects involving real customers who you will get to meet and visit. You will have the opportunity to develop System Simulation's core software by applying your inspirational ideas and your brilliant code.

Clerkenwell is a great place to work and System Simulation will allow your skills and great ideas to flourish. Email us at telling us how you see yourself fitting in and what you are able to contribute. Please include:

  • Your CV
  • Your current notice period
  • Your eligibility to work in the UK
  • Your salary expectation
